“This is in my top five most emotionally affecting immersive shows I’ve attended. An excellent example of combining immersive theater, escape room challenges, and narrative agency–very much recommended.” — Aaron V., attendee

“I was profoundly moved by this immersive approach to an extremely painful part of our history, one that has not fully been addressed.” — Susan S, teacher

Manzanar Immersive is an educational “live interactive narrative experience” that shares important lessons about the Japanese American World War II history in a hands-on, engaging environment where the participants are part of the show.

Manzanar Immersive is a live “empathy” experience in which people collaborate to solve puzzles, complete activities, and interact with character actors as they proceed through the narrative of a Japanese American family living through the wartime experience. Manzanar Immersive will help people learn about Japanese American history, culture, and values along with other learning skills, such as collaboration, communication, and empathy.

The story of the Japanese Americans during World War II is one that directly relates to the civil liberties and social justice issues of today. Understanding the discrimination and hardships that Japanese Americans faced in the 1940s is extremely important for everyone today in order to better relate to the prejudice and hatred that seems to be gaining momentum in today’s society.
